So, you just launched a new product or business, as soon as it’s live you sit back and wait for the sales to roll in. The problem is - they don’t come in. A few days go by, sometimes a few weeks and still, nothing is happening. You’re probably wondering if your site is broken, so your first sale ends up happening, but it’s from yourself just to make sure everything is working. You then start questioning everything you’ve done and doubting your product. The problem however might not your product or your website.
If a tree falls in the forest with nobody around, does it make a noise? In business, that answer is a simple, no. If you don’t have an audience listening, it’s really hard and maybe even impossible to sell anything no matter how great it really is.
In this article, I’m going to give you 4 strategies for building your audience to make selling your product much easier.
Think of it like opening a brand new beautiful store, flipping the sign to say “open”, but accidentally keeping the door locked so nobody could come in. Having an audience is the key to selling anything, especially if you want people waiting in a line around the block before you open your store. While there are several ways you could do it — here’s my 4 favorite ways to build an audience.
1 - Collect email addresses.
Despite what you may have heard, email is currently one of the best ways to reach your audience. The idea here is that you want your audience to give you their email address in return for something. It could be a PDF guide, an ebook, a free resource, an email course or a number of different things. by giving useful industry related materials to your target audience, you can be sure that you generated a contact that could be interested in your product or service.
2 - Content marketing.
By developing content for your audience, you'll be able to grow your audience in a much more meaningful way then cold calling everyone in the phone book to pitch your offerings. The type of content you could make depends quite a bit on your audience but as a rule, create content that they find valuable and get it to them in a way they can easily find it. A few examples would be YouTube videos, podcasts or blog posts.
3 - Collaborate with others
Collaborate with others that have a similar audience. Take a look on social media and find people that have the same audience as you but do/sell something different. Look for ways that you can message them and simply ask if there's ways for you to collaborate on something together at no cost. The best part is, if you do collaborate on something and both share it while linking to the other person, both sides stand to gain some new members in their audience.
4 - Paid advertising
Paid advertising can work wonders to growing your audience. First you want to make sure you're targeting the right audience and then give them content or information that they might be looking for. Make sure to test several kinds of ads and designs here. You'd be surprised the difference of a headline or background color could make.
You may have noticed the 1 thing that all of these strategies have in common. Giving something of value to your audience. Giving is one of the easiest ways to become a trusted resource. People are sold to 24/7, by giving, you'll instantly stand out and grow a loyal audience.
